Free or paid for car upgrade at pickup
Most companies will not guarantee to provide the exact car you booked and may upgrade you to a more expensive model. Often they will try to convince you to opt for a paid for upgrade at pickup rather than offer a free upgrade if your chosen car is unavailable. If you are happy with the group of car you originally booked don't be talked into paying for an upgrade. |

Check the car and all paperwork before you accept the car
Make sure the paperwork states exactly what you have paid for including insurance, taxes, additional drivers and any extras before you leave the depot. Examine the car and tyres and ensure any damage however minor is correctly shown on the paperwork to avoid any dispute upon return. |

Check any insurance excess
Even if you take out CDW you are normally liable for damage to parts of the car like tyres, the underside or glass so make sure you are aware of this at the outset. |

Petrol - On pickup check how the car must be returned
Car hire companies charge large premiums for filling cars with petrol so check how much fuel must be in the car when you return it and ensure you comply. |

Keep the paperwork with you at all times
Often a legal requirement abroad so don't drive without both your driving licence and rental agreement. It will also be required in the event of accident or breakdown. |

Finally - Return the car on time
Car hire is normally on a 24 hour hire basis so being even a few minutes late in returning the car is likely to result in an additional days hire being charged to your card. |
